Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 June 2026
Short version: your notes live only on your own computer, we never see them, and we don't sell or share your data. The longer version is below — and it's honest.
Your notes stay on your device
Every note you create — its text, position, colour, and which page it belongs to — is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's chrome.storage.local. This data never leaves your machine. It is not uploaded to any server, it is not synced to us, and we have no way to read it.
If you uninstall the extension or clear your browser data, your notes are removed along with it. We keep no copy.
Anonymous usage events
To understand whether features are working and worth maintaining, the extension sends a small number of anonymous usage events through Google Analytics 4. An event is nothing more than a name describing that something happened, for example:
installed— the extension was installednote_created— a note was addednote_deleted— a note was removedpopup_opened— the toolbar popup was opened
That's the entire payload — a name. Specifically, these events never include:
- the content of any note,
- the URLs or titles of pages you visit,
- your name, email, IP-based identity, or any account information,
- any persistent identifier that could link events to you over time.
client_id is generated for every single event and is never stored. As a result, two events cannot be tied back to the same browser, and nothing identifies you as an individual.
No data sale or sharing
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties for advertising or any other purpose. The only outbound network request the extension makes is the anonymous event described above, sent to Google Analytics solely so we can count usage in aggregate.
Chrome Web Store — Limited Use disclosure
Mind the Tab's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not transfer, sell, or use your data for any purpose other than providing and improving the extension's single, user-facing feature, and we do not allow humans to read your data.
GDPR & ePrivacy
Because the usage events are strictly non-identifying — names only, no content, no URLs, and a fresh non-persistent client_id per event — they do not constitute personal data and do not track you across sessions or sites. For this reason the extension does not set identifying cookies or local identifiers for analytics, and no consent banner is required under the GDPR or the ePrivacy Directive. Your notes, the only data of any substance, never leave your device and are processed entirely locally by you.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and publish the revised version here before the change takes effect.
